AB 392: The California Act to Save Lives
AB 392, introduced by Assemblymember Shirley Weber, aimed to restrict police use of deadly force to situations where it was absolutely necessary, building on best practices proven to reduce police killings. Signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom, it became one of the strongest use-of-force policies in the U.S.
Strategic communication efforts were used to raise awareness, lobby for the bill, and mobilise public support, amplifying the voices of impacted families and advocating for justice and trust between communities and law enforcement.
