European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Mining Industries Strategy (2023 - 2027)

OVERVIEW

A comprehensive mining sector strategy was designed for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with a clear focus on supporting the green energy transition and aligning with the Paris Agreement. The strategy aims to selectively support the exploration and production of critical metals and minerals required for green energy and digitalisation, such as copper, lithium, cobalt, and nickel.

A key priority is to decarbonise mining activities by promoting cleaner energy sources, digitalisation, gender-equal skills development, and resource efficiency. The strategy was designed with continuous feedback from stakeholders, ensuring alignment with evolving industry needs and priorities. It promotes responsible environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices within mining companies and aims to support governments in improving mining sector regulations.
